WE LOVE: Wedding Ceremonies in Churches

April 7, 2011

The Greater Philadelphia area, including Wilmington, Delaware, Southern New Jersey, the Main Line suburbs and, of course, Center City, is rich in historic houses of worship of every denomination.  If you are considering holding your wedding ceremony in one of the area’s churches, you’ll need to make securing the date and location your first wedding planning priority.  [The Catholic Basilica Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, Photo:  Cliff Mautner] Read the rest of this entry »

SHOP: Bake, Chill and Serve in Beatriz Ball’s Eco-Friendly Metalware

March 22, 2011

In a world of mass production, handmade is the true luxury.”  Beatriz Ball, metal artist.

We couldn’t agree more!  This Spring, our Floral and Fine Gift retail boutique, Evantine at The Rittenhouse, is showcasing a variety of new products made by skilled artisans from around the world.   It’s our pleasure to introduce the award-winning and eco-friendly, Beatriz Ball Collection of Fine Metalware from Mexico City, Mexico.

Founded in 1991, the Beatriz Ball Collection is comprised of elegant bowls, platters and service vessels that are handmade, one at a time, using the ancient art of sand casting.  Each innovative design is made using 100% recycled aluminum that, in its molten state, is poured into sand molds and then polished over and over again until nothing but a high shine remains.  In fact, each creation will be touched by up to twelve different artists before the piece is finished and ready for purchase.  Shown above, the new ANTIK Collection breathes new life into the timeless form of antiquity. Using the wavy lines and decorative patterns found in Latin cultural fabrics and hand painted pottery, sand molds were made to offer a textural statement for the modern table.

Selected by many brides and grooms for its contemporary styling, Beatriz Ball metalware is also celebrated for its heirloom qualities and durability. Not only do these stunning pieces look sensational on the table but they are also functional!  They will not tarnish or lose their shine and can be used to heat, chill and safely serve food.  The perfect gift for Spring bridal showers, weddings and Mother’s Day celebrations.

Available now at Evantine at The Rittenhouse.  210 West Rittenhouse Square, Lobby Level, Philadelphia 215-790-2576.

What Exactly is a Ketubah? For many, it’s the perfect embodiment of faith, commitment and artistic expression.

February 15, 2011

Ketubah (pronounced “keh-TOO-buh”) is a traditional Hebrew marriage covenant dating back to the Talmudic Era.  According to the Jewish faith, marriage is a contractual agreement between two people with legal rights and obligations set forth in a marriage contract or Ketubah.  Written in Hebrew and Aramaic, many consider the Ketubah to be one of the original forms of a prenuptial agreement.  According to Jewish law “A man may not live with his wife even one single hour without a Ketubah in place.”

WE LOVE: The View from the Back, of a Wedding Gown, That is

January 18, 2011

Filled with joy, excitment and the promise of everlasting love, every bride is truly beautiful on her wedding day.  Glowing from the inside out and more than likely buffed and polished to a rosy sheen on the outside, the wedding gown is the final layer of beauty that completes the bridal silhouette.  The proverbial cherry on the sundae if you will.  A rather large and sweet cherry that every bride savours and every guest relishes.  As the shining star of the wedding day, all eyes follow the bride wherever she goes and that means her every angle, pose and posture is on display.   Watching her gown float behind her as she glides down the aisle or twirl around her legs as she turns to hug a friend or shimmer under the light as she dances with her groom ** sigh **; there really is nothing quite like the allure of the wedding gown.   But it’s the view from the back, with all its endless stream of buttons, soft romantic shirring, traditional lace panels, rich fabric folds, gossamer layered tulle and sophisticated drapes, that catches our attention and never lets it go.

WE LOVE: Holiday Music, Well, Some of Us Do, Here’s Our Favs

December 16, 2010

The snow is falling outside our doors today and inside our warm design studio the Evantine elves are feeling downright festive!  Nothing says Christmas like fresh white glittering snow!  So it’s high time we put on some of our favorite holiday music selections and CRANK UP the volume!  But with our very diverse crew of creative (and somewhat eccentric) characters, discovering what music says “Christmas” proves challenging, if not a wee bit fascinating.   At least for us.

“Although I’m technically Jewish, I do love David Foster’s orchestration of Silver Bells and Josh Groban’s O Holy NightThey’re just beautiful melodies.  But I really prefer instrumentals, unless a Christmas carol is being sung by a clear and melodious voice with exceptional pitch and vibrato, which leaves out Taylor Swift. And Burl Ives.”  Arlene Bluestein, Event Designer

WE LOVE: Stolen Moments of the Bride and Groom on their Wedding Day

November 2, 2010

[Susan and Jeff on the way to their waiting horse and carriage just outside historic Old St. Joseph's Church in Society Hill.  Photo by Jeff Reeder]

While looking back through event photographs – ostensibly searching for something else – we’ve been too easily distracted by images from weddings that captured a single moment of the day.  A moment that hinted at a deeper story within.  We may look upon the following images and remember the lovely event design, the sensational bridal gown, or how fabulous the orchestra performed.  But it’s far more likely we’ll relive the abundance of love felt by the families, the romantic devotion of the bride and groom or the bottomless well of parental pride.  Another person may see the quiet relief of achievement, the elegance of age, or the nervous anticipation of a life in transition.  In essence, the photos are doing exactly what they were designed to do in the first place.  Tell a story:  if only one frame at a time.   Read the rest of this entry »

PLANNING: Favor Your Baby or Bridal Shower Guests with a Beauty Bar

October 19, 2010

Sometimes the ugly eyesore in the event space can become the party FAVORite.   In this case, an empty shelving unit became an interactive Beauty Bar at a hip baby shower.
