WE LOVE: A Chuppah with a Rainbow of Blooms

May 28, 2013

Colorful Chuppah Arlene Bluestein Evantine Design

We just had to share a quick peek at the colorful floral Chuppah we designed at one of our gorgeous weddings over the holiday weekend. If the bride’s note indicates anything, we NAILED IT!

You are a brilliant, creative, mind-reading genius. THANK YOU for making the wedding of our dreams. WE LOVE YOU!” ~ Elizabeth

Together with the rest of our hard-working Evantine Team, Event Designer, Arlene Bluestein, created a vibrant celebration at the Please Touch Museum. And it all started with this happy, lush floral Chuppah!  How many people can say they were married next to a carousel? Not many. But when you’re designing a sentimental focal point to sit next to such a powerful visual,  you know you have to think BIG and BRIGHT!

COMMUNITY: One Year Later, The Barnes Foundation’s Opening Gala!

Opening Gala Barnes Foundation Philadelphia Event Designers Evantine

Hard to believe it’s been a year since The Barnes Foundation opened its doors last Spring. We were honored to be a part of the Museum’s opening events and look back on the Grand Opening Gala with wonder and pride. To experience this architectural and artistic achievement first hand was nothing short of spectacular, particularly as we know how difficult the journey was for countless teams of talented people.

The museum is, and will continue to be, an amazing addition to the city of Philadephia. {Photos: Susan Beard Design}

WE LOVE: The Beauty of Black and White

May 8, 2013

For event designers and party planners, the world of events is tremendously exciting because designing rooms and spaces is a process of starting afresh, taking risks, and giving shape to the imagination. Working within the constraints of budget and the client’s taste is expected, but as far as color selection, most event designers draw on a kaleidoscope of options. Yet, sometimes living on the color wheel is overwhelming.

We have found that paring down a party’s color scheme to black and white can tone down that pressure, yielding a tremendously powerful, eye-catching result. In all its simplicity, black and white décor is at once modern and classic, dramatic and understated, as it is timeless and elegant.  In other words, it’s a sure thing.

No matter how you position them,  black and white will evoke a sense of romance and style that transcends time.  We have only to look to classic black and white films or photographs to know that time goes by in color, but we remember it in black and white.

COMMUNITY: A Night of Design Inspiration: Philadelphia University’s Evening of Innovation

April 23, 2013

Evening of Innovation Room Shot Black and Gold Event Design A

We’re just days away from another incredible night of design inspiration and one of Philadelphia’s most prestigious events, Philadelphia University’s Evening of Innovation.

The Verizon Philadelphia University Evening of Innovation is an amazing platform for advancing the importance of higher education and innovation and the impact they have on the global economy. With proceeds providing scholarship support for Philadelphia University’s deserving students, this special evening pays tribute to students, faculty, alumni and friends who contribute their talent, creativity and determination to meeting current and emerging social needs through innovation. This celebration includes the Annual Fashion Show at the majestic Academy of Music, immediately followed by the Spirit of Innovation Gala and Awards Ceremony in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt at The Bellevue. This year’s Spirit of Design Award honors acclaimed fashion designer Nicole Miller.

Nicole Miller Spirit of Design Award

As we put our final creative touches on this year’s event design, we can’t help but look back at last year’s super chic (if we dare say so) gold and black party design in honor of last year’s Spirit of Design Award recipient, John Varvatos. Designed and produced in just over a week, last year’s Spirit of Innovation Gala and Awards Ceremony gave Evantine’s illustrious leader, Brian Kappra, the opportunity to transform the ballroom at Hyatt at The Bellevue into a sleek, modern dining room inspired by Varvatos’ award-winning career in menswear fashion.  With a sea of black lacquered tables, black faux crocodile chairs with clear Lucite backs, gold decorate elements and over 1,000 candles, there’s no doubt a dramatic statement was made in the usually-traditional ballroom. But Brian didn’t stop at the table designs. (Does he ever?)

He also transformed the existing stage into a modern, crisp, multi-media facade that caused a flood of “OH, WOWs” as all 500 guests walked into the ballroom. Having his personal fashion favorite John Varvatos stand on stage and say how AMAZING the room looked made the 20 hour installation worth every second!

REAL STORIES: A Steakhouse Bar Mitzvah Celebration

April 16, 2013

0024-Jared's-Bar-MItzvah-Party Evantine Design Steakhouse Theme

When a client walks in the door with a cool party idea already in mind, it’s our absolute pleasure to make that concept come to life!

Such was the case with a recent Bar Mitzvah in South Jersey. Our clients are devoted steakhouse lovers and challenged Event Designer extraordinaire, Arlene Bluestein, to create that same sense of warmth and sophistication for their son’s Bar Mitzvah celebration. Working with a rich palette of reds, browns, taupes and metals, Arlene transformed the halls of Congregation Beth El in Voorhees, New Jersey into Jared K’s Steakhouse.  {Photos courtesy of Philip Gabriel Photography}

Guests were entertained on every level, from the delicious foodie-approved menu to the fire-branded chalkboard seating boards and rustic wooden tables, to the engaging soccer ball performer, energetic entertainment and dramatic red lighting. But that’s not all. Waiters from Barclay Caterers took table-side dinner orders from leather bound menus. Custom-made mahogany bars were placed in the main “dining room” complete with  leather bar stools and drink menus featured classic American cocktails.

When it came to designing the main dining room, Arlene lined the room with curved leather banquettes with round tables as well as rectangular family-sized tables. But the upscale steakhouse feel didn’t end there, red silk lamps, modern distressed wooden candle holders, contemporary glass hurricanes, lush low floral centerpieces and tall palm trees were layered into the scheme for dramatic effect.

Jared and his friends were seated at high community tables centered in the main dining room, allowing them the best (and fastest) access to the dance floor. The always rockin’ band LA Stars kept the crowd dancing all night long!  The adults’ dined on intimate tables holding low centerpieces filled with flowers in deep red tones, such as amaryllis, tulips, roses, hydrangea, orchids and hypericum berry. Even the party favors were branded right on theme, and included short sleeved t-shirts for the boys and burnout hoodies for the girls, all rolled into “fire branded” tubes that also included tins of  mints.

No detail was left to the imagination and the collaboration between Arlene and her client couldn’t have been better! … and then there was the fabulous sports-themed cake from Classic Cake Co. to bring it all home. Mazel Tov Jared!
